The Mandala is a geometric pattern in the Hindu culture that represents the universe. It encourages meditation, unity and has a purpose to help enlighten viewers and promote healing. I painted the outline of the Mandala and brought the piece around the hospital and each patient I interacted with would paint a pedal a different color. Each color had a meaning for what they were feeling in that moment or what that color specifically meant to the painter. Some examples were strength, hope, inspiration, in loving memory, wisdom and happiness.
I created this piece over an entire summer semester at the Sanford Arts internship program. Each little doodle in the background represents a patient or remarkable interaction I experienced.

We celebrated all of the outstanding volunteers at Sanford Hospital by creating a collaboration piece at a special event.
This little boy is one tough cookie, he taught me what it truly meant to be resilient. We painted together all summer and I made a special portrait for him to remember the positive moments we had during his time at the hospital.
This was a radiation treatment mask for a young pediatric patient with inoperable brain cancer. We were able to transform her experience into a positive one when every treatment she was able to become her favorite hero, Elsa.
